"Roger's class was inspiring, rich and engaging. Roger has a unique ability to create a safe and supportive space for introspection, deep reflection and exploration of previously unknown biases. He accomplishes this while encouraging students to find their own process of self-illumination, broadened awareness and self-acceptance through creative writing and poetry. I loved Roger's class and look forward to the next one." Raven Adams

"Roger was a fabulous teacher, always attentive, well-prepared, and engaging. He is an expert in his subject area and a warm and generous human." Dr. Kathleen A. Kremins

What are the words that define our sexual and gender energies and identities?

Female. Male. Nonbinary. Trans. Poly. Cishet. Transmasculine. Genderqueer. And so many others.

What do those words mean? Do they suit our needs? Do they constrict or liberate? Perhaps both?

RE/WRITING SEX & GENDER explores these questions through creative writing.

The first class will begin with basic sex and gender terms. We will also be introduced to Liz Lerman's Critical Response Process in order to ensure a common perspective from which to discuss each other's work.

Each week, we will look at the work of a Queer/Gender Theorist and/or artist and answer a writing prompt based on that source. Participants, through their writing, will explore how Queer/Gender Theory pertains to their own external and internal lives.

During class, participants will share their creative work, which will spark conversation as well as further exploration and questions.

It is from this space of personal reflection, as well as conversation, that we can begin to affirm our identities as well as bridge perceived divides - searching within so that we might reach beyond and recognize our shared humanity.

The next session will begin on Tuesday, April 27. We will meet once a week for 5 weeks, from 7pm EST to 8:30pm EST.

The workshop dates are:

Tuesday, April 27, 2021, 7pm EST to 8:30pm EST

Tuesday, May 4, 2021, 7pm EST to 8:30pm EST

Tuesday, May 11, 2021, 7pm EST to 8:30pm EST

Tuesday, May 18, 2021, 7pm EST to 8:30pm EST

Tuesday, May 25, 2021, 7pm EST to 8:30pm EST
